Amazon unBoxed 2026:
What Amazon Announced and What It Means for Brands

The short version
One platform. The Amazon DSP and the Ads console are now one platform, the Amazon Ads Agent, with three campaign types and a conversational AI layer across planning, buying, and measurement.
Conversational ads. Brands can now feed product expertise directly into Alexa for Shopping conversations through a new Sponsored Brands format, launching January 2027.
Paid review velocity. Review Requests, launching November 2026, lets brands pay to put their products in front of verified buyers who haven't reviewed yet. Early tests showed about 3x the weekly ratings and reviews.
If you only act on one thing this quarter, make it the content and review work that feeds Amazon's AI. That's where control lives now.
What Amazon announced
1. Amazon Ads Agent: the DSP and console become one platform
The Amazon DSP has been rebranded and merged with the Ads console into the Amazon Ads Agent. Everything now runs through three campaign types: Sponsored Ads, DVA+ (display, video and audio), and Full-Funnel Campaigns. A conversational assistant sits on top and handles audience recommendations, budget planning, reach forecasting, performance diagnostics, and reporting. Amazon says advertisers can query close to 1,000 metrics in plain English, with peer benchmarks built in.
Status: expanded closed beta. Experienced buyers can still toggle back to a traditional DSP setup in advanced settings.
2. DVA+: one buy for display, streaming TV and audio
DVA+ combines what used to be Sponsored Display, Sponsored TV and programmatic DSP buying. You pick a goal (sales, traffic or awareness), add products and creative, set a budget, and Amazon's AI handles placement and bidding. There's a simplified mode for smaller advertisers and an advanced mode that keeps targeting and bidding controls for enterprise buyers.
3. Full-Funnel Campaigns: Amazon picks the channel mix
This is the most automated product Amazon has shipped. One campaign runs across sponsored ads, display, video and streaming TV, on Amazon properties and Amazon-selected third-party sites. AI decides the channel mix, creative, audiences and pacing, and is built to grow new-to-brand customers and long-term sales.
Amazon reports 67% higher long-term ROAS and 29% lower cost to acquire a new-to-brand customer. The minimum is $100 a day, and it's US only and still in beta. The trade-off: you can't pick individual channels or specific audiences.
4. Branded Conversations: your brand inside the AI shopping chat
When a shopper taps a Sponsored Brands prompt (think "Help me decide" on a coffee maker search), they enter a multi-turn conversation in Alexa for Shopping, the assistant Amazon formed when it merged Rufus with Alexa+ in May. Through Conversational Briefs, brands can tell the AI how their products differ, which use cases they fit, and what bundles well together, with their own colors, fonts and imagery.
In early testing, nearly 20% of shoppers who engaged with a Sponsored Brands prompt kept talking about that brand. Brands can't choose which reviews the AI surfaces, and Amazon will flag inaccurate inputs. Launches January 2027 in the US.
5. Review Requests: paid placements to earn reviews
Brands can now pay (cost per click) to prompt verified buyers to review products on the Amazon homepage, order pages and purchase confirmation emails. It's built for products with fewer than 1,000 reviews, caps at 1,000, and doesn't allow incentives. Early tests showed roughly 3x the weekly ratings and reviews. Launches November 2026.
The Drum reported that brands were more excited about this than about the AI tools. We get why.
6. Sponsored Services: local services on Amazon, powered by Yelp
Yelp advertisers in home and auto categories (plumbers, electricians, movers, roofers) can now appear on Amazon product detail, order confirmation and package tracking pages. Buy a kitchen faucet, see a local plumber. Shoppers can call or request a quote without leaving Amazon. US only, pricing not yet disclosed.
7. AI creative, data and measurement upgrades
AI creative: Generative tools that turn existing product assets into display and TV-quality video. Amazon cites 71% more product coverage and 15% sales growth versus pre-adoption.
Amazon Marketing Stream v2: Reporting moves from hourly to every 15 minutes.
Ads Data Manager: A single connection point for first-party data.
AMC Publisher Insights: Privacy-safe signals from 43+ streaming publishers inside Amazon Marketing Cloud.
AMC SQL generation and MCP Server Lite: Natural-language AMC querying that writes the SQL for you, plus a lighter MCP server so third-party AI agents can connect to Amazon Ads.
Which brings us to the real question: what does this mean for brands?
Your inputs are now your targeting
When Amazon's AI chooses the channel, the audience and the placement, the levers you still own are the ones it reads: your catalog, your creative, your reviews, your first-party data, and soon your conversational brief.
If your product detail pages are thin, the AI has less to work with when it decides whether to recommend you. If you're not readable, you're not recommendable. Content quality is now a media input, and it should be budgeted and staffed that way.
Reviews just became a media line item
Review Requests is the most immediately useful launch for most of our clients. Review count and rating drive conversion on the detail page, and now they also shape what Alexa for Shopping says about you, since brands can't pick the reviews it surfaces.
For new launches and products stuck under a few hundred reviews, this is a direct way to build social proof at scale. It's also a cost that used to be organic. Plan for it in launch budgets starting in November.
Automation needs a measurement plan before it gets your budget
A 67% lift in long-term ROAS is a strong headline. It's also Amazon measuring Amazon. Full-Funnel Campaigns doesn't let you choose channels or audiences, so the reporting you negotiate up front is what tells you whether it's working.
We'd treat it like any new black-box product: test it with a defined budget, run holdouts or geo tests where possible, and judge it on new-to-brand growth and contribution margin, not platform ROAS alone. The $100 daily minimum also means smaller brands can now get streaming TV in the mix. That's a real opportunity, as long as the test is set up to answer a question.
The marketer's job moves from operating to deciding
Amazon is collapsing the work of building and managing campaigns into a chat window. That frees up hours. It also means the teams that win will be the ones setting the right goals, guardrails and budgets.
Spending caps, approval steps, which metrics define success, and when a human overrides the model are decisions that belong to your team. Make them before the automation goes live.
Conversational commerce has a launch date
Branded Conversations goes live in January 2027. That gives brands one quarter to get ready. The 20% continuation rate suggests shoppers will engage with a brand inside the AI conversation when the content is useful.
The brands that show up well will be the ones who already know how shoppers ask about their category, have clear answers on differentiation and use cases, and have the review depth to back it up. That's Q4 homework.
Faster data rewards teams that can act on it
Fifteen-minute reporting, AI-written AMC queries and a single first-party data connection lower the barrier to analysis. The value depends on whether your team and tools can act on intraday signals: dayparting, inventory-aware bidding, budget shifts during tentpole events.
If your reporting still runs on a weekly spreadsheet, there's an opportunity to close that gap.
What we recommend doing now
Before Black Friday and Cyber Monday
Audit review gaps. Identify every priority ASIN under 1,000 reviews and build a Review Requests plan for the November launch.
Tighten detail page content for AI readability. Titles, bullets, A+ content, images and video. Assume an AI is reading it before a shopper does.
Write your automation guardrails. Agree on budget caps, approval steps and success metrics (new-to-brand, long-term sales, contribution margin) before turning on any AI-managed campaign type.
Between now and Q1 2027
Draft Branded Conversations briefs. Document differentiation, use cases, sizing and compatibility, and bundles for top products so you can launch on day one in January.
Pilot Full-Funnel Campaigns with a holdout. Set aside a defined test budget with a clear hypothesis and an incrementality read, and compare against your current Sponsored Ads and DVA mix.
Upgrade your data setup. Map the jump to 15-minute Marketing Stream data and Ads Data Manager to your current reporting, and decide which intraday decisions you want to automate.
Watch Sponsored Services. If you sell products that need installation (appliances, fixtures, auto parts), watch how Sponsored Services shows up on your detail and confirmation pages.
Our take
Amazon is building toward a world where the shopper talks to an assistant, the assistant decides what to recommend, and the advertiser pays to inform that decision. unBoxed 2026 is the first year the ad product lineup matches that vision.
Over the next 12 months, the brands that pull ahead will have the best content, the deepest reviews, clear measurement, and a team that knows when to trust the model and when to question it. Budget size alone won't decide it.
