Turning Southeast Asia into DistroKid’s most efficient international subscriber growth engine
DistroKid partnered with Direct Agents to identify where creator-led media could drive efficient paid subscriber growth across Southeast Asia. The question for international expansion: which markets could convert demand into subscribers most efficiently?
Direct Agents built a localized, full-funnel testing model to uncover where creator-led demand could scale with the greatest confidence.
Awareness was only the starting point
DistroKid needed to understand which Southeast Asian markets could do more than generate awareness. The brand wanted to identify where creator-led media could drive measurable subscriber growth, where acquisition costs were most efficient, and where future UGC investment had the strongest potential to scale.
A market-by-market growth test
Direct Agents launched a localized, full-funnel test across six priority Southeast Asian markets. Instead of treating the region as one broad media market, the team evaluated each country individually to understand audience response, conversion behavior, and subscriber acquisition efficiency.
Localized UGC
Creator-led content helped DistroKid connect with independent artists through market-relevant messaging across Meta and TikTok.
Always-on search
Always-on search captured high-intent users who were already moving from discovery into consideration and subscription.
Performance-led budget
Budget was not scaled evenly across the region. Investment followed the markets with the strongest cost efficiency, subscriber growth, and LTV:CAC signals.
Efficient growth, not just more spend
The campaign showed that Southeast Asia could become a true subscriber growth engine for DistroKid. With spend up just 5%, multi-touch attributed subscribers grew nearly 80%, while cost per subscriber fell more than 40%. SEA CAC came in nearly 50% below DistroKid’s broader international benchmark, and LTV:CAC rose to over 8x, showing that the program was not just driving volume. It was acquiring higher-value subscribers more efficiently.
Creator-led social created demand
UGC-led social and video media generated more than three-quarters of impressions across priority SEA markets, helping build market-specific awareness and demand.
Search captured the conversions
Always-on search captured more than 80% of attributed subscriptions, turning high-intent demand into paid subscriber growth.
Direct Agents created demand, captured intent, and identified where DistroKid could scale next.
A clearer roadmap for regional growth
The campaign gave DistroKid a market-level view of where to scale, where to optimize, and where to continue testing across six SEA markets, supported by $124K in spend and nearly 6.5K MTA-attributed subscribers.
Data reflects SEA performance from Jan. 1, 2026 to Jun. 15, 2026.
A repeatable model for international growth
The campaign gave DistroKid more than short-term performance results. It created a repeatable framework for international subscriber acquisition, showing how localized UGC, paid social, always-on search, and market-by-market budget optimization can work together to scale growth more efficiently.
